Dr Ball is one of South Africa's best trick shot player.
A golf – and extreme sports – enthusiast, Dr Ball began playing golf in 1999. 18 months later, he’d progressed onto a scratch handicap, and four years later, in 2003, he broke the world record for hitting a golf ball 140 metres – with a four metre long club!
Dr Ball is a well known figure in the golfing fraternity. In addition, Dr Ball has performed his golfing and business exhibitions for many companies, and enjoys marked respect in the corporate community.
Dr Ball began his illustrious career in law. After completing his legal degree, he moved on to a position as an accountant, and from there, quickly progressed on to become an MD – at the age of 27. Study was also a priority, but his MBA was interrupted, as he explains, ”I always wanted to qualify as a pilot, and during the course of my MBA I discovered that flying is much more fun than studying.” Consequently, Dr Ball never completed his thesis.
Still, life isn’t all fun and games for the extreme golf exhibitionist. At present, Dr Ball is in training for his second world record attempt. The golf pro intends to break the world record for hitting the most golf balls into a specified area in an hour.
Training for such an event is gruelling. Dr Ball currently spends about ten hours a week training in the gym, and a further five at the driving range. In addition, he has to spend periods training his hands to grip solidly for an hour, without cramping.
